What does success look like to you?
This is an important question because its not the same for everyone. Some people want to look a certain way in the mirror, while others don’t care about the visual only the number on the scale. Some people only care about their next snatch PR, still others don’t care about either, success for them is having energy and confidence in the work place or as a parent AFTER work…
One thing is for sure, there is no right or wrong answer!
What is more important is that the people helping you on your journey know what equals success for you, and help you get there. Sometimes.. actually most often, our definition of success changes over time, and thats fine too.
Goals are important to success! If you create goals, that move you along the path to your definition of success you are much more likely to achieve personal success than if you just go to bed each night thinking… “I hope I end up being successful.”
Here are a few simple steps to move you in the right direction…
Step 1 – In an email write your long term goal 1, 3, or even 5 years, what do you want to accomplish? Then describe how you will know you have achieved your goal (what does success look and feel like?)
Example: I want to be in the best shape of my life in 1 year, I will feel confident taking my shirt off a the pool, I won’t weight myself every day, I’ll have energy from the time I wake up to the time I go to sleep, I’ll do the activities I used to love like play basketball and soccer.
Step 2 – Next, write down 3 some short term goals (1 month, 3 month, and 6 month) that are going to move you in the right direction.
1 month – No fast food, partial week meal prep and shopping from list on Sundays, workout 3 times per week
3 month – Down 15 lbs of fat and UP 5 lbs of muscle
6 month – Starting to like the way I look with my shirt off, need to buy some new dress pants.
Step 3 – Send that email to a few people who will support you! Here’s the part where we come in, if you’re a member here schedule an appointment with a coach to review what you wrote down.
With our emphasis on goals and success we have created a new role in our gym! Our new Director of Goals and Success will be a key factor in helping us become more goal oriented as a community, as well as recognizing all the success that happens here every day and every week! Christi knows more about setting, fearlessly pursuing, and achieving goals than anyone else I know! We have been conceptualizing this role a few months now, and its much overdo!
Here are a few ways you can support Christi and in doing so contribute to the entire community!
- Use the PR board for EVERYTHING that is awesome, if you came 5 days in a row for the first time, that goes on the board! If you meal prepped for the first time put it on the freaking board! We want to know about all the little victories that are happening, when you offer up your success for others to see you empower others. The PR board isn’t just for weightlifting and double unders!
- Participate in Bright Spots Friday – everyone has different levels of comfort, if you only feel good about sharing what happened in the gym thats fine. Remember it is a closed group so nobody but active members of our community (and their spouses) can see what you write!
- Schedule your goal setting session with a coach!
